Frequently asked questions

Using RallyMixer

Is this a round robin generator?

It's similar to a round robin, but smarter. A standard round robin schedules every possible pairing once — it doesn't balance rest rounds or prevent the same two players from partnering repeatedly. RallyMixer optimises for partner variety, opponent spread, and rest equity simultaneously, so the session stays fair from the first round to the last.

How many players does it support?

Between 4 and 20 players. Odd numbers are handled — the algorithm distributes rest rounds evenly so no one sits out more than others.

How many rounds can I generate?

Up to 60 rounds per session. For most pickup games of 6–10 players, 15–20 rounds covers a full evening.

Can I change the target score?

Yes. The default is 21 but you can set any score from 1 to 99 before generating rounds.

What is the Live Room?

Live Room lets everyone at the court see the same schedule in real time on their own phones. One person generates the rounds and starts a Live Room — others join with the share link or code. Any score updates are synced instantly.

Does it work without internet?

Yes. After your first visit, you can save RallyMixer to your home screen and use it fully offline. The Live Room feature requires an internet connection to sync between devices.

Is my data stored anywhere?

Player names are saved locally on your own device for convenience. Nothing is sent to a server unless you start a Live Room session, in which case session data is automatically deleted 24 hours after creation.

What counts as a fair rotation?

A fair rotation ensures every player gets the same number of court rounds, partners with as many different teammates as possible, and never sits out two rounds in a row. RallyMixer optimises for all three at once when generating the schedule.

How does the scorekeeping work?

Each round card has a live score input for both teams. Tap + or – to update the score. RallyMixer tracks the rally, detects game point, and marks the round complete when a team reaches the target score.

What if a player arrives late or leaves early?

The current version generates a fixed schedule upfront. If someone joins late or drops out, the simplest approach is to regenerate with the updated player list. We plan to address this in a future update.

Can I use RallyMixer for other racket sports?

The rotation logic works for any format where two teams play to a set point target with rally-point scoring. Table tennis doubles is a natural fit — set the target to 11 and it works as-is. The court visual is badminton-specific, but the scheduling and scorekeeping are not.

Why fair rotations matter

In a typical 8-player pickup session with random pairings, some players will partner the same person three or four times while others never share a court. Players with strong partnerships keep winning; those stuck on weak pairings get frustrated and the session loses its energy.

RallyMixer's rotation engine treats partner variety and rest equity as equal constraints. Every player gets a roughly equal number of rounds, an even spread of partners, and no one is stuck on the bench twice in a row. The result is a session that feels fair to everyone.
